Slitting

At Taylor Steel Inc., there are seven slitting lines.

Ideas and technologies which have evolved from decades of experience can be found in our slitting processes.

Advanced equipment at Taylor Steel tightly winds coils without the use of traditional drag or friction devices.

A slitting line with a Strand Extensioner is a technology designed by Herr-Voss and developed by Taylor Steel. This line is essentially a pull-through slitting line with a Strand Extensioner positioned between the slitter head and the recoil mandrel. The strand unit consists of a series of rolls that trap the slit mults, top and bottom, directly ahead of the recoil mandrel. Pulling the slit cuts through the rolls with the recoil mandrel creates equal tension on all of the cuts so that they are wound up uniformly. Gauge variations (crown) are compensated for by adjusting the pressure in specific areas as required with the top bank of rolls. The size, placement and configuration of the rolls reflects the range of gauges of material to be processed.
This process allows for the production of high quality products with minimum camber and superior width tolerance leading to less waste and improved cost-efficiency.
